Job Summary: | The Foundations for Math Success team at SLCC is hiring Classroom Aides! What is a Classroom Aide (CA)? Our ideal CA is a talented student interested in creating quality learning experiences for developmental math students.What do CAs do? Attends classes to help answer students questions and support active learning and group work. Encourages student engagement and fosters student learning. Helps instructors provide a productive learning environment that will guide students toward understanding the course material. Assists students in learning study skills that will help them excel both inside and outside of college.Why work with us? We can be flexible around your schedule. Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Attend classes with students and rotate through different class sessions to establish connection/bonding with the instructors and the students.
  • Provide quality learning assistance to students enrolled in Foundations for Mathematical Success developmental math program.
  • Assist instructors ensure that students are remaining engaged and absorbing material.
  • Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, and build confidence in students.
  • Provide support for content and concept understanding, not direct answers to graded work.
  • Work with students in groups.
  • Provide support and structure in project-based assignments.
  • Help students work with math manipulatives that model math concepts.
  • Teach students study skills, note-taking techniques and test-taking strategies.
  • Participate in training, development opportunities and other events when available.
  • Maintain regular communication with your supervisor and other Classroom Aides


Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of MATH 1050-College Algebra (or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of MATH 1050-College Algebra (or equivalent) earning an A grade.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: General Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Empathy for and understanding of the diverse student population in the college. Great time management, self-motivation, and organizational skills. Be open and available for observations and follow-up conversations. Knowledge of Mathematics through College Algebra. Application of different learning strategies, including active learning and peer-to-peer techniques. Help students learn how to learn the material. Help students develop or refine their study skills and become independent learners. Demonstrate sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of students seeking learning support. Ability to communicate the subject matter effectively. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to listen to and answer questions during interactions with students. Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing, fast-moving educational environment. Ability to work well with others and in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
