The University of Alaska Southeast is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as Director of the School of Education (SOE). This position will provide leadership, promote student success, faculty excellence, diversity, and inclusion. Located in the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is fully committed to advancing the education and research aspirations of Indigenous peoples and is committed to ongoing work toward decolonization. These efforts are reflected in our UAS programs and formal community partnerships across our three campuses (Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan) and throughout all of Southeast Alaska.

Duties:

100%The Director is the educational leader of the SOE overseeing academic and administrative functions and is responsible for the following: Advancing the mission and vision of the UA system, UAS, and the SOE in a collaborative, equitable, and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives; Embracing a demonstrated commitment to shared governance; Working effectively with faculty, staff, students, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, Tribes, and other community partners to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service with a focus on Alaska's unique needs and opportunities; Supporting the faculty's foundational commitment to equity and diversity and our commitment to examining the decolonization of the educational process by incorporating indigenous intellectual authorities; Providing leadership, management, and advocacy for strategic and budgetary planning; Contributing to faculty and staff recruitment, professional development, evaluation, and employee relations; Serving as an innovative and dynamic advocate for the SOE and its programs; Assisting faculty and staff in the facilitation of the continued development and implementation of a shared framework; Assisting faculty with maintaining the educational effectiveness of the SOE's academic programs through knowledge of the data, including data analysis and interpretation; Upholding standards of rigor and academic excellence, and overseeing and facilitating external accreditation process, such as Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP); Promoting interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, inter-college, and internal collaboration, cooperation, and research across the UA system, and with external partners.Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience with Indigenous populations of students;

Experience with Alaskan or rural P-12 schools;

Familiarity in working with non-traditional students;

Experience as full-time faculty in an institution of higher education (Tenure and Associate rank or higher, preferred);

Experience writing or administering grants or other external funding;

Experience in collaboration and advocacy with public officials on policy issues;

Experience in using digital productivity tools (i.e., Google documents, Zoom);

Familiarity with delivery of distance education;

Effective and committed work with families, schools, non-profit, Alaska Native/American Indian organizations, Tribes, communities, as well as state and federal agencies. Typical Experience: Earned doctorate, or doctorate expected within a reasonable timeframe, in a degree appropriate to serving as Director of the SOE;

Experience as a P-12 public education teacher with diverse populations of learners;

Experience as an administrator in a P-12 and/or higher education environment;

Experience as faculty in an institution of higher education;

Experience with higher education accreditation systems, such as CAEP;

Experience with budget management. Required Education or Training:
Earned doctorate, or doctorate expected within a reasonable timeframe, in a degree program appropriate to serving as Director of the SOE;

Experience as a P-12 public education teacher with diverse populations of learners;

Experience as an administrator in a P-12 and/or higher education environment;

Salary Information:
