The University of Alaska Southeast's School of Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Secondary Education to complement existing expertise and contribute to our program. This position will begin with the 2023- 2024 academic year. Our Secondary Education Program prepares candidates for initial licensure through a graduate certificate program and a Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Both programs are offered online via distance delivery. We seek a faculty member with demonstrated potential for creative teaching in a virtual environment as well as for virtual and on-site clinical supervision. The University of Alaska Southeast's School of Education values collaborative scholarship among colleagues. The person in this position will be expected to work with colleagues to teach current and new graduate courses in secondary education, engage in clinical supervision across the state, establish strong ties with colleagues in and across the college and university, including secondary education faculty and administrators in local school districts, and participate in department, college, and professional service activities. The candidate will also be expected to work with colleagues to help ensure continuing program and unit accreditation and to serve students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experience with Indigenous populations of students and communities;
Experience supervising, mentoring, or training adult learners/educators;
Experience with Alaskan or rural P-12 schools and teaching students from culturally diverse backgrounds, especially Alaska Natives;
Experience as faculty in an institution of higher education;
Experience with accreditation processes for public or university school settings;
Experience in using digital productivity tools (i.e., Google documents, Zoom);
Familiarity with the delivery of distance education;
Education or teaching experience in the field of culturally responsive teaching, multicultural education, and/or working with diverse populations;
Extensive knowledge of differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, education technology, and current issues in education;
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills;
Familiarity in working with "non-traditional students"/diverse populations of adult learners
Typical Experience: Minimum of three year's experience teaching in public middle/high school classrooms with diverse populations. Experience in student teacher supervision. Experience with CAEP accreditation or other accreditation processes. Required Education or Training:
Earned doctorate, or doctorate expected within a reasonable timeframe, in a degree program appropriate to serving as faculty of middle/high school teacher education;
Minimum of three year's experience teaching in public middle/high school classrooms with diverse populations.
Salary Information:
This is a regular, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with salary and rank based on experience. Desired start day is 08/14/2023. This position is covered by the UNAC collective bargaining agreement.
