Assistant Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood Education

Penn State Altoona, Division of Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences, invites applications for the tenure-line faculty position of Assistant Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood Education program, specializing in Social Studies Education, beginning August 2022. The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field, at the time of appointment start date; be able to teach Social Studies Education and other related undergraduate courses in the Elementary and Early Childhood Education program (PreK-4 certification); and have a minimum of 3-years of experience teaching elementary or middle school. We encourage applicants with specialization in multiple disciplines and/or subject areas within the field of education.

The position requires the teaching of nine credit hours per semester, conducting original research published in peer-reviewed journals, advising and mentoring undergraduate students, as well as providing service to the College, community, and the profession. Each candidate should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and working collaboratively with faculty and local school district partners. Successful candidates will be dedicated to ensuring the highest quality pre-service teacher education while also encouraging individual growth, cultural awareness, ethical decision-making, and civic responsibility. Candidates will also be expected to assist in the ongoing growth and development of the program and participate in student recruitment and retention activities, as well as program assessment.
