The Department of Computer Science at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an emphasis on Machine Learning. Special attention will be given to foundational Machine Learning research as well as its applied areas such as Artificial Intelligence, AR/VR, Computer Systems, Computer Security, and Software Engineering. Exceptional candidates in all areas of computer science are encouraged to apply. The candidate should have potential to conduct high quality research, seek research grants, and be committed to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate is also expected to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with an anticipated start date of August 14, 2023. The prospective hire must have completed an earned doctorate in computer science or related disciplines by the start date.

UNO's Department of Computer Science is one of the largest academic units in the college of Information Science and Technology (IS&T). It offers undergraduate, masters programs in computer science and computer science education (CSEd), and graduate certificates in machine learning and cloud computing areas along with a college level doctoral program in Computing and Information Sciences along with The department has a strong focus on research, and majority of its tenure-track and tenured faculty are currently funded by federal awards from AFOSR, NIH, NSA, and NSF including 4 NSF CRII-funded investigators and an NIH junior investigator. The department has a thriving STEM education program supported by a computer science STEM chairperson among others. The College of Information Science and Technology (IS&T) has two other units – the Department of Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis, and the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics. The academic program portfolio of the college includes five undergraduate degree programs including a nationally recognized cybersecurity program, five Master of Science degree programs, and 2 doctoral programs. The college is housed in the Peter Kiewit Institute Building with shared laboratory spaces, offices, and collaboration spaces dedicated for thriving student engagement and research. The building is located within a two-mile radius of the University of Nebraska Medical Center facilitating exceptional access to collaborating medical researchers and practitioners. The college has significantly grown in the recent years through several high-quality faculty hires and provides a thriving collaborative research environment spanning cross-cutting areas in biomedical informatics, cybersecurity, information management, and social computing.
