Assistant Director of Honors Global Learning Initiatives

About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The University Honors Program is comprised of approximately 3,300 academically gifted students. The Assistant Director of Honors Lifelong Learning Initiatives is responsible for directing, implementing, and assessing one of the key initiatives in the Honors program (such as Global, Mentoring, and Co-curricular engagement). The Assistant Director also provides developmental advising to Honors students on issues such as Honors course selection, academic support, and co-curricular opportunities. The Assistant Director plays an integral role in the University Honors Programs and supports initiatives such as Orientation, Welcome Week activities, graduation recognition programming, and other initiatives as needed. There are some weekend and evening hours required in this position to support programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in higher education or related field required and 2 years previous work experience in higher education required. Experience in advising students engaged in global study is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required. Computer skills, experience working with database software / website maintenance desirable. Ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively. Experience working directly with students and providing excellent student programming opportunities highly desired. The Assistant Director should demonstrate a student-centered approach to helping students define and achieve their goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibility 1: Coordinate implementation of strategic plan for global learning experiences & student engagement
  • With Director and Associate Directors, draft and implement policies, procedures, and communications addressing Honors student global engagement; Maintain accurate website content on global experiences, funding, and engagement
  • Coordinate the management and dispersal of Honors global funding to eligible students
  • Support faculty as they plan on-the ground and/or virtual Honors DOCs by assisting with the design and promotion of the DOCs, pre-departure programming, and responding to students' queries and needs
  • Leverage Honors global experiences to enhance the Honors student experience (e.g., connect Honors DOCs with alums who reside in the countries the DOC is visiting, connect with students on global co-ops)
  • Serve as Honors liaison and point of contact to GEO and the Global Co-op community
  • With Director, strengthen connections between Honors and other parts of the Northeastern global campuses, e.g., NCH, GEP, NUin, campuses that serve undergraduates
  • With Director, explore opportunities for novel global experiences designed expressly for Honors students, such as global mobility programs.
  • Manage data and reporting on global engagement


Responsibility 2: Honors Advising
  • Provide developmental advising and guidance to Honors students
  • Respond to inquiries from Honors students and college advisors
  • Coordinate outreach to students participating in NEU global initiatives (e.g., NUin, GEP, etc.) designed to sustain connection to Honors Program and/or facilitate their transition back to the NU Boston campus


Responsibility 3: Honors Program Management & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Honors team members and campus and community partners to develop and realize the Northeastern University Honors program vision
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of first-year and upper-class Honors programming, (e.g., competency-based learning, community-building and leadership development programming)
  • Bring ideas and insights to staff meetings and leadership and seek out opportunities to implement and assess the work of Honors.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and commitment to on-going improvement.


Responsibility 4: Co-coordinate Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Efforts
  • Contribute to the design, execution, and assessment of initiatives to bolster diversity, equity and inclusion in Honors
  • Design unique affinity spaces for Honors students
  • Reach out to particular populations of Honors students who may benefit from additional support
