Overview of the Office of Civic Engagement
The Office of Civic Engagement is in the division of Academic Affairs and falls under the purview of the University Provost, specifically the Associate Provost for Equity and Inclusive Excellence. Within the Office, the program's mission is to initiate, promote, and support educational experiences that link academic course work with efforts to meet a community expressed need. Community based and engaged, Service-learning efforts address the public good while enhancing learning through active engagement that promotes increased knowledge of course concepts, a broader understanding of the field of study, and a greater sense of civic responsibility.

The Office of Civic Engagement functions as both a resource and a liaison for students, faculty, staff, alumni/friends and community organizations and agencies. Community based and engaged, Service-Learning efforts include providing the following services: consultation with all members of the Bucknell community, students, faculty, and staff interested in academically-based service; workshops on community based and engaged, service-learning including sessions on liability, engaged pedagogy, working with community partners, interdisciplinary collaboration, reflection and critical thinking skills, as well as roundtable discussions for Bucknellians and community representatives on public sector needs in the environment, health care, youth mentoring, law and criminal justice, etc. ; support for engaged course development and teaching practices; research on learning objectives and community needs; networking opportunities; announcements about relevant conferences, new materials, and scholarship opportunities.

The Assistant Director is a full-time professional staff position with a 12-month schedule. The Assistant Director works closely with academic departments and programs to implement community based and engaged, service-learning efforts in alignment with the Engaged Bucknell Strategic Plan and the Civic Action Plan including acting as a consultant to faculty, staff, students, alum and friends as well as community organizations and managing operations at the Office of Civic Engagement as a direct report to the Director of the Office of Civic Engagement.

The Assistant Director is responsible for working cooperatively with other Office of Civic Engagement team members to ensure the smooth and professional daily operation of the program. The Assistant Director is expected to:
? Act as a consultant to help identify potential community engaged service sites that meet academic learning objectives for their students
? Serve as a liaison with community agencies and organizations to publicize their needs on campus and educate them about potential services available through group and individual service projects.
? Help design and maintain the web sites, virtual platform and other Civic Engagement web pages, email lists, promotional materials for faculty, staff, students, alum/friends, community members, campus immersion programs, and various visitors.
? Assist in the training and supervision of employees working in Office of Civic Engagement and across community based and engaged, service-learning projects.
? Assist with research projects such as surveys and questionnaires that help the community based and engaged, service-learning program assess the impact of our work and needs of our constituents, including the annual BU impact analysis due in July.
? Represent the Office of Civic Engagement at public events such as the admissions fair, community focus groups, HR new employee orientation, presentations to student and alumni groups, regional conferences, etc.
? Assist with the management of alternative break projects including service-learning trips by maintaining records, arranging air travel and transportation, handling student applications, references, waivers, insurance and health forms in coordination with Global Education.
? Assist in event planning and implementation; troubleshooting specific problems as they arise; helping with some community service initiatives.
? Advance university wide sustainability efforts, especially as it relates to OCE office & programs.
? Demonstrate commitment and ability to facilitate diversity and inclusion programming.
? Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
? Master's degree and one year of related experience in higher education or in non-profit social service agency OR a Bachelor's degree and three years of experience
? Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
? Excellent writing and oral communication skills
? Comprehensive administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills, including the ability to multitask efficiently and work independently
? Understanding of the principles of service-learning and ability to educate clients, including students, staff, and faculty, as well as community partners about issues related to quality service-learning projects that are beneficial to all involved
? Professional demeanor and ability to interact well with the campus constituents as well as public, community representatives, and organizations requesting information and service
? Ability to handle confidential information on a routine basis
? Ability to learn and quickly navigate the operational structure of the university's offices and resources, ability to make appropriate referrals
? Ability to design publicity materials and correspondence appropriate for different audiences, and ability to work with others on web design
? Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and a net browser, and working knowledge of social media such as FaceBook, blogs, etc.
? Valid US driver's license.

? Experience working with faculty and/or Engaged Learning
