About the Position:
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP) supports the CSUF mission of preparing our diverse student body for academic and professional success. We develop and support practices, programming, and policies across the broad spectrum of inclusivity, equity and civility for the CSUF campus community. Through the provision of consultation and training, we strive to promote a campus community wherein students, staff and faculty are engaged in the values of inclusive excellence. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director of Engagement and Learning. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Director will lead the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Programs' (DIEP) efforts to create, coordinate, administer, and evaluate learning opportunities and programming to achieve a sustainably inclusive and supportive environment for a thriving and diverse campus community. The DIEP office provides diversity education, inclusivity programming, business process training, and leadership development services across CSUF faculty, staff, and students. As a key member of the DIEP leadership team, the Director will work collaboratively with a variety of constituents within the University and assist the Assistant Vice President to develop and implement diversity education and programming efforts in alignment with institutional strategic goals. This work achieves and expands the vision of inclusive excellence and supports diversity and inclusion efforts on campus. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Master's degree in a field related to diversity and inclusion from an accredited college or university. Three years of experience related to employee or student engagement, inclusion and diversity including training, consultation, process improvement and practices around issues of social justice, employee or community engagement, or effective diversity skill development. Professional experience with program evaluation and assessment. Demonstrated experience in leading, planning, and implementing large scale campus-wide programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate difficult dialogues, effectively listen to all points of view and ability to build consensus on initiatives and issues. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills. Strong communication and writing skills.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years of experience involving:
  • Developing programs promoting diversity and inclusion in higher education or in a similarly complex corporate or large non-profit organization.
  • Designing and facilitating multicultural trainings and workshops.
  • Constituent engagement activities to promote belonging and connection to the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, training and evaluating employees.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity issues in complex decentralized organizations.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
