The Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs for the Division of Behavioral, Social Sciences & Global Learning is part of BHCC's academic leadership team and works under the supervision of and in consultation with the Dean in the operation of the academic division. The Assistant Dean is part of a team of academic and student affairs administrators whose shared focus is the development, implementation, and support of innovative academic and co-curricular initiatives that promote student access, equity, and achievement.

With these goals in mind, the Assistant Dean provides administrative support and leadership for a variety of departments and work areas within the division, including Behavioral Sciences, History and Social Sciences, Human Services, International Center, the Commonwealth Honors Program, and the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement.

Responsibilities:
Provide Support for the Division Dean:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for divisional activities and grant initiatives, including student enrollment, retention, and student success.
  • Support curricular and co-curricular program development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Compile, evaluate, and report on relevant data that supports assessment and program improvement.
  • Assist in the administration of the division, including office management; budgets, data, and related reports; and requests for information related to collective bargaining and other Human Resources matters.
  • Serve as a division liaison to BHCC work areas, including Academic Records, Student Central, the Dean of Students Office, Advising, and LifeMap.
  • Support the development and revision of the master schedule of courses and faculty assignments for full-time and adjunct faculty. This includes the preparation and review of supporting data for the creation of classes.
  • Work directly with the Registrar's Office to create and revise schedules for the entire academic year and collaborate with the Dean in these decisions.
  • Attend in-person meetings and events, including evenings and weekends, as needed, throughout the full calendar year.

Provide Support for Department Chairs, Faculty Program Coordinators, and Directors:

  • Collaborate with Deans and administrative support staff to design and implement professional development and training.
  • Support the program review process: identify programs approaching program review, prepare supporting data, and coordinate the external evaluation process.

Provide Support for Adjunct Faculty:

  • Participate in hiring processes, orientation, and onboarding.
  • Ensure that relevant college policies and procedures are followed.
  • Respond to faculty concerns.
  • Review course materials and syllabi.
  • Conduct classroom observations.
  • Coordinate professional development and adjunct engagement activities.
  • Manage relevant communications to adjunct faculty.

Provide Support for Students in the Divisions:

  • Implement academic policies and procedures.
  • Respond to student concerns and complaints.
  • Manage relevant student communications.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Demonstrated management, supervisory, and leadership experience.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience working in higher education administration, such as chairing an academic department or major committee.
  • Proven ability to work with faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to promote collaboration among departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, with competing priorities.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree in an area of study within the Division.
  • Teaching or work experience at a community college or four-year liberal arts institution.
  • Teaching at the college level in one of the fields that the Division oversees.


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $120,000 - $125,000. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience. Non-Unit Professional position. Full State Benefits.
