Job Description:
The Department of Child and Family Studies and the Department of Teacher Education at Weber State University invites applications for a full-time instructor who is fluent in Spanish. This position will be a shared position in the NAEYC and AAQEP- accredited early childhood education program and the Teacher Education program at the associate, bachelor, and graduate levels. Successful candidates will have practice and teaching with children from birth through grade 6, and adult learning.


Job Duties:
The instructor will teach 12 credit hours per semester, Teaching 12 credits (6 credits CHF/ 6 Credits TED). Plus a service commitment to assist with the Building Puentes program (new course preparation/translation, practicum oversight). TED teaching credits will include student-teaching field placements, oversight, and observations. ECE credits teaching Spanish courses - practicum, family engagement, and/or integrated curriculum.


Required Qualifications:
Required:
  • MS, M.Ed. Early childhood education, Special Education, or a closely related degree
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Three years of pre-K-3rd grade general education and/or special education experience


Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
  • Ph.D. in education, early childhood education, special education, or a closely related field
  • At least 12 credit hours of coursework in child development
  • Graduate-level early childhood education or special education coursework
  • Professional experience with children (birth -12 years) and their families
  • Expertise in academic disciplines of literacy and/or STEM in an early childhood education curriculum
  • Expertise with play-based emergent curriculum approaches
  • Expertise with trauma-informed, early childhood mental health or disabilities studies approaches
  • Experience in university teaching
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and/or supervising and teaching adults
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocating for young children
  • Experience with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards for professional preparation and accreditation systems
